Is dual citizenship possible?

At the end of the last century, immigration laws were passed that prohibited American citizens from having another citizenship. The traditional text of the oath of allegiance requires not only loyalty to the new fatherland, but also a renunciation of previous values. However, established legal practice allows an American citizen to retain his former citizenship, provided that the country itself does not deprive him of his citizenship.

American authorities do not persecute those who, after taking the oath, retained their previous citizenship. The State Department, in the interests of expanding interethnic ties, turns a blind eye to the fact that many new Americans have not abandoned their former homeland. They have the right to participate in elections, but cannot be elected to a foreign parliament or appointed to an important political position in another state, serve in its army during a military conflict with America, and even less so in security agencies. In such cases, American citizenship is immediately lost.
