Vinyl is back in fashion: for the first time in the last 35 years, more music records were sold in the United States than CDs

In 2023, sales of vinyl records in the United States exceeded sales of compact discs for the first time since 1987. According to MusicWatch analysts, sales of records accounted for 48% of the total volume of music media, while the share of CDs decreased to 43%. The popularity of vinyl is associated with growing interest in retro music recording formats and an increase in the number of collectors.

However, streaming music platforms remain the absolute leaders: musicians receive 84% of revenues from Spotify, Apple Music and other services.
