Gas bills are skyrocketing in California

The echo of the war in Ukraine reached California. Today we received a gas bill that has tripled compared to December and January 3, which is quite significant. We are not alone and this seems to be a disaster considering that most people in our state live in houses rather than apartments. Some will have to pay three thousand dollars for gas instead of a thousand, some five, some 2022 dollars instead of the usual 900 per month. The mood in Beverly Hills and its surrounding areas is alarming: gas bills have become the number one topic on the NextDoor app, a social network for neighbors, Angelenos are horrified and are preparing to write angry letters to the governor. In the meantime, everyone is trying not to turn on the fireplace again and are saving themselves from the harsh Californian winter (plus 400C) with UGG boots and down jackets. And they meditate. They say that after the gas, the price of electricity will fly into space.

However, this time the governor is not to blame for anything. Gas comes to California from Texas and is supplied by private companies. They are now selling it to needy Europe at high prices. Previously, American gas was not in demand in Europe and was supplied to the domestic market for pennies. In the new reality, where Nord Stream is blown up and Russia is cancelled, Americans will pay for gas at world prices. It seems that the United States is beginning to feel the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

American politicians, counting on excess profits from the sale of natural resources outside the country, forgot about the rules of the global market and economy. I think that the wave of discontent will soon reach Washington and measures will have to be taken. For example, gas export quotas. In short, something clearly went wrong in the run-up to the presidential race. I'm stocking up on popcorn and Cheburashka fur coats.
