Rats in New York may carry three strains of COVID-19
Microbiologists from the company mBio have published a study that claims that rats can be infected with coronavirus variants such as Alpha, Delta and Omicron, NYP reports. Scientists collected samples from 79 Norway rats in New York to look for evidence of coronavirus transmission. 13 of them were infected with Covid.
Scientists say that following these results, it is necessary to monitor SARS-CoV-2 in rat populations in the future. This will make it possible to understand whether the virus can mutate into new strains in animals. And it is clear that, first of all, experts are interested in the question of how dangerous these new strains are for humans.
