New York may introduce paid street parking for local residents only

Representatives of the Democratic Party in New York propose to make street parking in the metropolis paid. Such a proposal is currently being considered by the New York State Senate. Under the plan, residents of areas of the city where it is especially difficult to find parking spaces will pay $30 a month and receive a guaranteed space for their car. So, supporters of the new project want not only to solve a painful issue for New Yorkers, but also to help the metro, which is drowning in debt, including the MTA transport company. If the law is passed, suburban residents who come to New York to work will have to switch from cars to public transport.

Of course, the project itself has already caused a lot of controversy. Many Republicans think the proposal is absurd. The initiative must be voted on in the state Senate, and only then the law will go to Governor Kathy Hochul's desk.
