The White House called on Republicans to support raising the debt ceiling
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that Republicans in Congress should support another increase in the US debt ceiling without any conditions. She emphasized that attempts to use the national debt limit as a tool of pressure will not work, since the United States needs full trust from other states. A possible US debt default would have dire consequences for the economy, including the loss of 6 million jobs and rising unemployment. At the same time, she assured that President Joe Biden will not interfere in resolving this issue.
“We are not considering any measures that would bypass Congress. This is a basic responsibility of Congress, and Congress must act,” Jean-Pierre said.
In October, the American national debt exceeded $31 trillion and amounted to 31 trillion 123 billion 887 million 781 thousand 401 dollars and 34 cents. The US Treasury will soon release the federal government's 2022 annual reports. The Wall Street Journal says the country's real national debt has risen to an alarming $100 trillion.
