Trump files defamation lawsuit against Pulitzer Prize Board

Former US President Donald Trump accused the jury of libel in connection with the award in 2018 to The New York Times and The Washington Post for their coverage of a “now debunked theory” about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US elections, Fox News reported.

“Most Americans completely misunderstood what was happening when the media was dominated by the Times and Post Russia collusion hoax,” the complaint states.

“It’s remarkable that they were rewarded for lying to the American public,” Trump said.

The complaint makes a number of points about why he believes Pulitzer Prize-winning stories are unworthy of the honor - Special Counsel Robert Mueller failed to find evidence of collusion, as well as a report from the Justice Department's inspector general outlining the malfeasance of federal investigators.

Subsequent reporting on Russiagate revealed that many of the allegations in the Steele dossier that formed the basis of early Trump-Russia collusion narratives were false, merely rumors or even outright lies, and that figures such as Sussmann were acting on behalf of the Hillary campaign. Clinton and promoted collusion narratives that were leaked to the media.
