A Hawaiian served more than 20 years for a high-profile murder he did not commit.

In 1991, 23-year-old Dana Ireland was riding her bicycle in Hilo, Hawaii, when she was hit by a car. The police found the body in the bushes - before the girl died, she was raped. The crime was written about in the newspapers for a long time. In 2000, Albert Schweitzer was convicted of murder and given 130 years in prison. However, new DNA technologies allowed the man to be released.

Traces of blood found at the crime scene did not belong to Schweitzer. In addition, the police never found a single trace of his car.

The 51-year-old man said that the justice system in the United States is imperfect, but he is grateful to the judge for “a fair act.”
