US plans to restrict entry of tourists from China due to COVID-19
The United States may follow the example of Japan and Malaysia by restricting the entry of Chinese tourists due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in that country, a White House source said. President Joe Biden's administration is following expert advice and is leaning toward a similar strategy to curb the spread of the infection in consultations.
WSJ notes that tourists from China are the main target audience of the global tourism industry: according to the UN World Tourism Organization, in 2016 alone, the Chinese spent about $258 billion abroad, which is 20% of the industry’s global revenues.
