Medical insurance - the safety of you and your children!
You and your family may be eligible for low-cost or free health insurance and health care services regardless of your income or immigration status. You may qualify for low-cost or free health insurance through the New York State of Health Marketplace if you:
• permanent resident (Green Card holder);
• refugee or political emigrant;
• holder of a U visa or T visa (for victims of crime or human trafficking);
• holder of a work permit;
• are a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) category.
Applying for health insurance through the Marketplace will not affect your ability to become a permanent resident, a U.S. citizen, or a sponsor for a relative. To apply, you may need one or more of the following documents:
• Permanent Resident (Green Card / I-551)
• Certificate of naturalization
• Office of Refugee Resettlement Certification Form (ORR UAC/R-1)
Regardless of immigration status:
• Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
• Arrival/Departure Record (I-94 or I-94A)
• Passport
• Children age 19 or younger can get low-cost or free health insurance through Child Health Plus;
• pregnant women can qualify for free care before, during and after childbirth;
• Immigrants who are not eligible for health insurance through the Marketplace can obtain coverage outside the Marketplace and also qualify for employer-sponsored coverage;
• Regardless of whether you have insurance, you can get low-cost or free health care through NYC Health + Hospitals.
