New York migrants disappointed with halal food

Many migrants in New York who practice Islam were dissatisfied with food during Ramadan. According to them, the food offered was not always halal. City officials insist that halal is always on the menu, but there is disagreement about meat dishes. Migrants at the Creedmoor shelter complain that it only served vegetarian food, which cannot be considered a full replacement for halal meat products. The city spends $14 a day to feed each person in shelters (350 a day for all migrants).

Authorities promise to better inform migrants about available food options and continue religious services even after Ramadan.
