Google Office: A Metropolis Within the City

I believe that every person deserves to have one of their friends working at Google who can invite them for a tour of the corporation's office. I consider myself lucky because I am friends with Yury, who kindly invited me to the building at the beautiful address 111 Eighth Ave. Interestingly, the Google office (or rather, campus) in Silicon Valley differs from its New York counterpart in much the same way as Silicon Valley itself differs from the greatest city on Earth. The campus consists of low-rise charming buildings where you can bike between them, whereas the New York office is a monstrous 15-story Art Deco building built in 1932. No matter how hard I try, I won’t be able to fit all the interesting facts about Google in New York into a telegram post format, but I hope I’ll entertain you with a couple of facts:

  • The Google building has its own separate metro exit.
  • Google's rooftop offers beautiful views of both Downtown and Midtown New York. Not to mention my favorite neighborhood, Meatpacking.
  • The building occupies the entire block and there are free scooters inside to make it easier and faster to move around the floors.

Google bought the building in 2010 for nearly $2 billion, making the purchase one of the most expensive real estate deals for a single building in U.S. history at the time. Once again I felt like the person with the lowest IQ in the room: everyone was young, super smart and talented.

Everyone around is working and solving problems, and I was just there for the food. Speaking of food, Google has one of the best cafeterias I've ever been to. More precisely, it is more like a food court with many different cuisines and options.
