Fabula has developed compostable cups

For years, Keurig machines and similar brewers have become dominant in home coffee brewing. And no wonder: it’s fast, simple and convenient. A small cup that you put in the machine, then you drink the coffee, discarding the plastic cup. Coffee became a huge success, but plastic cups became a problem. Today, more than 10 billion plastic cups enter the market each year and end up in trash bins. Even the company's founder has since expressed regret over his contribution to the "plastic disaster."

A small Miami company wanted to do things differently. Of course, recyclable solutions have already emerged, but, the founders wondered, are cups really always recycled properly? Why not take it a step further and create a completely compostable cup?

The search for a solution has begun. Fabula founder Lars Spaten explains: "It's been a long journey, experimenting with design, materials, testing, going back and forth to the drawing board. It's been frustrating at times. But so many people have supported us, so we feel important." Eventually they found a design that works: it's basically paper - so the coffee brews like regular drip coffee - with a bio-resin ring. All of them are completely compostable. In fact, they decompose faster than, for example, avocado peels.

Then the next problem arose. The Fabula team says: "We love coffee, but it has to be fresh. Of course, most coffee in supermarkets is not fresh, but again we wanted to make it better. And using paper cups would quickly spoil the coffee." The company has found a way to package compostable capsules in individual sealed bags, also made from compostable materials. This way, the coffee in the bags remained fresh, as if it had just come from the roaster. Lars continues, and you can feel his passion for coffee: “The feeling when opening the bag is incredible: the delicious aroma of the coffee inspires your senses, this is how coffee should be. Fabula means “story”, and so you can almost smell the smell of the farm where it came from. coffee comes from."

Fabula has developed its cups to hold 25% more coffee than regular capsules. And the coffee is 100% organic, tested to be free of chemicals and mold. This is clearly a company with a mission, as they say: "Better coffee for a better you, for a better world."
