8 thousand dollars a month on dog walking

The income of Americans who walk dogs exceeded 8 thousand dollars a month. At the current exchange rate, this is more than 500 thousand rubles. In January 2023, the average cost of a half-hour (!) walk with a dog ranges from $14 to $35, but can be higher. The annual income of such workers sometimes exceeds 100 thousand dollars. This is more than a police officer or firefighter in the United States. Dog walking services have been common in America for a long time. And if previously schoolchildren did this on vacation or in the morning before classes, now such an activity can become a full-fledged profession with good earnings. The number of pets in the country has always been high, but it has increased further due to the pandemic. People stayed at home, worked online and got dogs and cats out of loneliness. Now many have returned to offices and are forced to hire assistants to walk and care for their pets.

A New York Times article tells the story of a 35-year-old woman who has been doing this for 11 years. Here are her words: “If I told myself that I could make a living caring for dogs, I would never believe it.” The fact is that she got a job there purely by chance, after seeing an ad on Craigslist. Thanks to her “part-time job,” the girl paid off her student loan and was able to start an entire business looking after, walking, and caring for pets. At the same time, she herself continues to walk with dogs, because she simply loves them.
