How do I get an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and SSN?
In order to obtain these documents, you must submit Form i-765 to USCIS. This can be done online or by mail. You can apply in two categories - these are (c)(8) and (c)(11). Let's consider 3 options for supplying i-765:
1.By category c8 | Free | Online
When you have already filed i-589 and waited 150 days after filing. In this case, you can apply online through your USCIS personal account. You can fill out the form yourself - it's quite simple:
•For free
•The work permit is issued for a period of 2 years
•First you need to submit i-589, then wait 150 days to submit i-765, and about another 3 months to get a work permit in hand.
2.By category c11 | Paid | Online
If you have not yet submitted i-589 and entered the USA less than 1-2 months ago, then it makes sense to apply for a fee
•The process of obtaining a work permit is faster - 2-6 months
•Easy and convenient to submit online
•You can track the status of the case in your personal account
•Cost 410$ per person
•Issued until the expiration date of Form i-94
3.By category c11 | Free | By mail
You can download Form i-765, fill it out and mail it to USCIS, also enclosing Form i-94, i-912, 2 2x2 photos and evidence for i-912 in the envelope.
Form i-912 - Fee Waiver is your request from the United States to pay a fee of $410 for you. You need to justify the reason why you are asking to pay this fee for you. For example, lack of income and to prove this, you need to attach documents such as free insurance, Food Stamp card, confirmation of low income from a social center, etc.
•Free, costs only for photos, printing and mailing
•Long wait for obtaining a work permit, from 6 months
•Your request to pay the fee may be rejected and you will lose time
•Issued until the expiration date of Form i-94
If you moved in less than 1-2 months ago, then it makes sense to immediately submit i-765 online for a fee in category c11, then submit i-589 and again submit i-765, but for free in category c8. This way, you will receive a work permit as early as possible, and when the C11 work permit expires, you should already have received a C8 work permit. If you do not have money to pay the fee, then immediately submit i-765 + i-912 by mail. If you have already submitted i-589 or are planning to submit it in the near future, then it is easier to wait 150 days and submit i-765 for free under category c8.
