New Rule That Limits Immigrants' Eligibility for U.S. Asylum

Joe Biden's administration officials today released a new rule that will limit immigrants' eligibility for asylum in the United States. If an immigrant entered Mexico through a third country, he does not have the right to seek political asylum at the southern border, CNN reports. As journalists note, the new rule is written on 153 pages. The Biden administration said the program will apply to all immigrants. That is, the US authorities believe that if a person was in a third country, then that is where he should have sought political asylum. Exceptions will apply only to children who are trying to cross the border without their parents. The new rule is expected to be published in the Federal Register, where it will be discussed at public hearings within a month. This rule will likely go into effect after Biden repeals the Title 42 program. That is May 11th. The new rule is expected to remain in effect for two years.

Many human rights activists consider Biden’s initiative unacceptable and associate the president’s reform with the ill-considered policies of Donald Trump.
