New bill regarding migrant shelters
The new bill is being introduced by Brooklyn City Council member Shahana Hanif. He will demand that asylum centers comply with the law. Hanif herself noted that her bill guarantees high humane standards for all migrants.
Activists were particularly concerned about the HERRC shelter on Randalls Island. Here the migrants slept on ordinary cots in close rows. That tent city closed in November, but a similar one recently opened at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
