Court in the Metaverse: artist must pay $133 thousand

After all, fake Birkin bags are sold in the Metaverse - this is the verdict issued by an American court. Artist Mason Rothschild, who created the NFT project MetaBirkin, is required to pay $133 thousand to Hermes for damages caused. Rothschild managed to create 100 bags and earned only $125 on them, but the Hermes fashion house claims that the total sales amounted to $1,1 million. While the artist is looking for justice and complains that his bags are art, a metaphor for consumerism, and not just virtual fakes, meanwhile, Hermes is already hard at work on real Birkins for the Metaverse.

The first trial in history, where the real world defended its interests in the unreal, was watched with bated breath by brands, artists, and those who settle in the Metaverse, since laws have not yet been written in this area. I wonder what will happen to Rothschild's hundred Birkin. After all, it is impossible to take them away from their owners and destroy them. I seriously doubt that anyone would want to get rid of several tens of thousands of dollars with one click of a button of their own free will, for the sake of the damaged reputation of Hermes. It is said that these MetaBirkin NFTs could, on the contrary, skyrocket in value and become even more desirable. I can't wait to see how Hermès expands into the Metaverse and brings its policies of queuing and customer humiliation to the virtual world.

The moral is this: anyone can offend an artist...
