New Year's Eve in Times Square: what do you need to know?

On New Year's Eve, crowds will once again flock to Times Square to welcome 2023. Through more than a ton of confetti, they aim to see the Waterford crystal ball descend. The first such show was held in New York in 1907.

Let's check the time

The celebration will begin shortly before 6 p.m. Around this time, the ball will be installed on a pole in Times Square. The ball drop, which will take 60 seconds, will begin at 11:59. It is better to arrive at Times Square before 2 pm. Entrance to the observation decks is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who performs in Times Square

Chelsea Cutler and JUKE will perform musical roles. The China-American Friendship Association and dance group ANEW will also perform. Other performances will be broadcast on various television channels.

How to watch the show from home

You can watch the event online at TimesSquareNYC.org from 6 p.m. The broadcast will last six and a half hours, without advertising.

Many TV channels are ready to broadcast live New Year's Eve from Times Square. Ryan Seacrest will host ABC's “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve,” which airs at 8 p.m. Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen hosted the CNN event, which also starts at 8. NBC's Miley Cyrus with Dolly Parton will air around 10:30.

Crystal Ball Descent

The launch of the ball can be seen along Broadway, from 43rd to 50th streets. It will also be visible along Seventh Avenue north to 59th Street.

Inconvenience

There are no public restrooms in Times Square. That's why some showgoers even wear diapers. Be prepared for this)

Safety measures

Alcohol will not be allowed into Times Square on December 31st.

And New York City has no COVID safety requirements for outdoor events.

Friends, Happy New Year to all!
