A resolution was introduced in the US House of Representatives calling for the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the UN Security Council
American congressmen Steven Cohen and Joe Wilson introduced a draft resolution for consideration by the House of Representatives calling on US President Joe Biden to seek the exclusion of Russia from the permanent membership of the UN Security Council, Foreign Policy magazine reported, citing a document in its possession.
Cohen and Wilson said Russia has committed "egregious violations" of the UN Charter that call into question its right to sit on the Security Council, including illegally voting for annexation in four regions of Ukraine, committing atrocities in Ukrainian cities such as Bucha, rattling nuclear weapons and putting global food supplies at risk.
Ukraine also favors Russia's exclusion from the council, although experts remain skeptical that such efforts will work, the newspaper writes. The UN's governing charter does not contain any provision for the removal of a permanent member of the Security Council.
