Trump was considering a nuclear strike on North Korea
In 2017, during Donald Trump's presidency, behind closed doors the president discussed the idea of using nuclear weapons against North Korea, while blaming some other country.
The situation was saved by former Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly, who talked some sense into Trump, offering to prove to him that he was “the greatest salesman in the world.” Since then, Trump has met with Kim Jong-un three times.
The events described were outlined by NYT correspondent Michael Schmidt, who in his yet unpublished book cites dozens of interviews, including with Kelly. It is worth noting that in 2017, speaking at the UN, Trump promised to “completely destroy” North Korea. In addition, Schmidt’s story is confirmed by Trump’s own Twitter posts, in which the head of the United States boasted that the nuclear button was “always on his desk.”
