What should a foreign agent be like?

As you know, the foreign agency was invented in the United States when they wanted to fight the influence of Nazi Germany. Russia adopted the experience, clearing it of any content, since in Russia one could become a foreign agent for almost anything, even before the latest amendments, and only after - for anything. Today I’ll tell you about a case that fully illustrates why the state of a healthy person may consider a foreign agency necessary.

Nickie Mali Lum Davis is an American lobbyist living in Hawaii. For a modest fee of about $3 million (to her alone), Ms. Davis and her colleagues agreed to work on lobbying for two tasks that were set by foreign officials:

- termination of the investigation by the US Department of Justice into illegal actions on the part of the Malaysian state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and termination of the procedure for confiscation of illegally obtained funds from the fund - deportation from the USA to China of dissident and citizen of the KRN Guo Wengui (the customer of this was one of the ministers of the Chinese Government) .

The indictment contains a long list of lobbying activities to achieve these goals. All actions were carried out without indicating that the initiators and sponsors of the process were foreign persons (the same activity without registration as a foreign agent). The lobbying itself (however, unsuccessful) was carried out at the highest levels of government, including organizing meetings of interested foreign persons with high-ranking officials of the State Department, the Ministry of Justice and the Presidential Administration, as well as with the Secretary of State himself and even the President.

By the way, one of Miss Davis’s accomplices was former Republican National Committee employee Elliott Broidy, who was pardoned by Trump and did not suffer any punishment. Just the initial efforts of Mr. Broidy and Ms. Davis were valued at millions of dollars up front and tens of millions if successful. For a visit to Bangkok to meet with the customer alone, Broidy asked for a million dollar reward.

As a result, Miss Davis was sentenced to two years in prison, a fine of $250 and forfeiture of $000 million received as rewards.
