The United States warned Ukraine about a turning point in the conflict with the Russian Federation

The administration of US President Joe Biden believes that the critical moment in the conflict will come in the spring. It is at this time that Russia must launch an offensive, American officials warned their Ukrainian counterparts during a visit to Kyiv. As it is assumed in Washington, Russia will go on the offensive, and Ukraine will go on a “counter-offensive in order to regain lost territories.”

The White House believes that the best-case scenario is for Ukraine to occupy as much territory as possible in the coming months before negotiations begin. The US is concerned that if Ukraine continues to fight wherever Russia sends troops, it will work in Moscow's interests. In addition, according to American intelligence, Ukraine will not yet be able to organize an attack on Crimea. At the same time, according to the newspaper's sources, Kyiv will not be able to simultaneously hold Bakhmut (Artemovsk) and try to carry out a counter-offensive. According to the source, the loss of Bakhmut will not lead to a “significant strategic shift on the battlefield,” but according to Zelensky, it will be a blow for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The White House fears that it will become increasingly difficult to find weapons for Kyiv - more and more Republicans are calling to stop supplies to Ukraine. Also, according to sources, there is no confidence that Europe is ready to continue long-term sponsorship of the war.

The WP source emphasizes that US promises to help Kyiv “as much as needed” refer to the scale of the conflict, and not to the volume of assistance provided. Washington constantly hints to Kyiv that comprehensive support cannot last forever. The Biden administration is now working with Congress to approve $10 billion in budget aid to Ukraine, which it could announce next week, on the anniversary of the start of the CBO.
