Fake general: American deceived dozens of elderly women out of $1,6 million

A 52-year-old native of Texas, Fola Alabi, who lives in Providence, Rhode Island, posed as a US Army general and thus met pensioners on the Internet. Alabi told his chosen ones, aged 70 to 80 years, that he was serving far from his homeland and dreamed of family comfort upon returning home. Then, having gained the trust of his victims, he reported various financial problems and asked for help.

Trusting women immediately sent tidy sums to “General Miller.” The fraudster's biggest victim is a pensioner who transferred him $334 thousand. It is also reported that another of the victims wrote Alabi a check in the amount of $60 thousand and was going to send another $300 thousand, but the bank suspected fraudulent transactions and blocked the account.
