Journalist sues Trump

A story that illustrates the importance of such a stage of legal proceedings in the United States as deposition/interrogation of a witness as part of the disclosure of evidence during pre-trial preparation. If you remember, journalist Jean Carroll accused Trump of rape in her book in the early 90s, and after he called her a liar, she filed a defamation lawsuit. Back in the fall, after much delay, the plaintiff’s lawyers were able to interrogate Trump, and the transcripts of the interrogations became public only now.

Trump’s position is based on the fact that he does not know the plaintiff and in general she is “not his type of woman” (let me remind you that the court, among other things, found out earlier and continues to find out whether these words were spoken in the process of fulfilling the duties of the President - it depends on this the opportunity to participate in the Ministry of Justice case).

During questioning, the plaintiff’s lawyer showed a photo from 1987 in which Trump and Carroll were together and offered to answer how this happened if the plaintiff and defendant had never met. Trump had already explained that he often shakes hands and takes photos with strangers, and began commenting on the contents of the photo: that it shows John Johnson (the plaintiff’s ex-husband), and Trump doesn’t even know the woman. But suddenly Trump changed his mind and said it was Marla (referring to his second wife Marla Maples). Here Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba had to intervene in the interrogation, who told the client that it was Carroll, after which Trump was surprised and the conversation went in a different direction.

Some believe that Trump's response undermined his "not my type of woman" defense: if he confused Ms. Carroll with one of his wives, then clearly she is "his type." The most interesting thing is that Marla Maples is not in the photo at all, since Trump’s other wife Ivana is there.
