New York mayor must pay millions of dollars to BLM activists

Hundreds of protesters in the Bronx in 2020 should receive $21,5 thousand from the state. If a judge approves the settlement, filed in federal court March 1, the amount will be one of the highest ever awarded per person in a class action lawsuit over mass incarceration. This could cost New York $4-6 million.

We are talking about an action in which more than 300 people participated. Many of them were arrested on June 4, 2020 in the Mott Haven area of the Bronx during BLM protests. In the lawsuit, the victims claim that the police handcuffed them with tight plastic handcuffs. Moreover, the officers were not wearing masks, although a pandemic was raging then. Officers wielding batons swung at protesters and attacked them with pepper spray. Now the victims are waiting for the final decision of the court.

Let me remind you that last year the City of New York paid out $121 million to settle cases of police misconduct.
