More than 300 people on a cruise ship fell ill with an unknown illness
318 passengers and crew members of the Ruby Princess cruise ship, sailing from Texas to Mexico and back, fell ill with an as yet unidentified illness, the symptoms of which include vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC has collected tests from those infected and is trying to determine the cause of the disease.
Staff tried to deal with the outbreak by increasing cleaning and disinfection of the ship, and the sick were isolated in their rooms. A Princess Cruises spokesperson said the unknown illness may have been caused by the highly contagious norovirus.
In total, there were 2881 passengers on board the ship.
