Pregnant woman in Ohio's baby begins to grow inside out

Beth Long became pregnant last year, but at four months doctors said the baby was growing with a rare abnormality - its insides were bulging out. The woman needed an urgent abortion, as the doctors said unequivocally that the child would not survive. However, the insurance company refused to cover the surgery due to state laws.

In Ohio, you can have an abortion, but insurers only cover the cost in extreme cases—if the pregnancy threatens the mother's life. Beth's case was not included in this category, so the woman did not receive any support. Beth and her husband Kyle didn't have $20 to $30 to pay for an abortion. The woman suffered for another three weeks before they were able to save up money and have a cheaper operation at another clinic.
