Doctors successfully tested a new method of treating lung cancer in late stages
The first 2 patients who agreed to a new method of treating advanced cancer completely recovered. Doctors performed a double lung transplant on 55-year-old Albert Khoury and 65-year-old Tannaz Amelie from Chicago, that is, they transplanted both lungs at the same time. The patients had no choice because the cancer had spread from one lung to another and was not responding to standard treatments.
The pandemic pushed doctors to this method of cancer treatment, when they performed double lung transplants in patients with Covid for the first time in their hospital.
