The truck business is in decline

“Muted peak season” was what trucking executives called the current situation at the annual Baird global industry conference in Chicago. American owners of cargo transportation companies believe that the next year, 2023, will be more active than the current one. It is worth saying that last year was also more successful: the head of the Schneider company notes that now they practically do not reject orders compared to last year, when they rejected about 50%. At the beginning of 2023, cargo carriers expect the usual dynamics. The Leathers company estimates the health of its business as 70% compared to last year, if the previous year is considered full-fledged 100%. They openly express sympathy for their colleagues with smaller firms: in their opinion, this year they have had a very difficult time. Inflation and rising business costs allow small carriers to almost go into the red, but many small companies have already gotten there. The optimism of those remaining afloat is rather restrained.
