Who are "almond moms"?

“Almond moms” - in Tik Tok they cleverly dissect society. This is what teenagers called parents who are obsessed with healthy eating and control their children's plates. The term comes from the mother of the Hadid sisters, Yolanda, who advised tired and hungry Gigi to eat a couple of almonds to fill herself up. Bloggers consider the model's mother toxic - because of her, Gigi stopped playing volleyball because she said that an athletic figure would interfere with her career on the catwalk.

Teenagers use the hashtag #almondsmom to share their stories about difficult relationships with their parents. One of these videos has received more than 8 million views - in it, the TikToker says that he can only enjoy pizza and sweets at his friends’ houses. Other bloggers complain that their mothers didn't give them cow's milk or sausage until they were 15 because it would allegedly cause terrible allergies. The methods of almond mothers are indeed very toxic - they do not directly tell the child that he is fat or looks bad, but they make it clear by negatively discussing acquaintances or simply people on TV with similar problems.

The TikTok trend has made parents think, and over the past month, American psychotherapists have had more clients asking “I’m an almond mom, what should I do?”

I am not an almond stepmom and discuss nutrition and appearance with my children directly. I try to do this with humor. And, of course, they have a clear example - I work out four to five times a week, cook healthy food (though I sin with pies), but I don’t stick to a diet. But when I’m too lazy to stand at the stove and the Guatemalan nanny has a day off, UberEats comes into play. Then I try not to look at what the kids ordered, because it's always inedible junk. I believe that the manifestation of anorexia, orthodoxy and bulimia in adolescents is largely the fault of narcissistic parents with pronounced perfectionism. Of course, in addition to the junk food that America is drowning in. I have already written that in the United States they are actively fighting childhood obesity with drugs and gastric resection.
