“Psychedelic churches” are rapidly gaining popularity in the United States.

They use ayahuasca for communion and further rituals - a psychotropic decoction of vine leaves containing a powerful alkaloid N-dimethyltryptamine. Interestingly, the Supreme Court allowed churches to use the decoction for their “worship services,” but at the same time, the alkaloid contained in the decoction is illegal.

People suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and drug addicts go to the “ayahuasca church.” They claim that the dark, thick infusion helps cope with problems better than doctors.

People who use ayahuasca fall into a state of confusion for several hours, see deceased relatives, and have bizarre visions. A side effect of the decoction is profuse vomiting, which, however, does not stop church parishioners.
