Hundreds of Uber drivers go on strike on the streets of New York
New York City residents and visitors may have trouble hailing Uber and Lyft today. Many drivers went out to protest and demand higher wages. Back in November, the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission supported employees of private taxi companies and approved an increase in the base fare from $2,50 to $3. That is, the average taxi ride should have risen in price by about 23%. However, Uber went to court. As a result, they postponed the decision to increase tariffs. A meeting on this issue is scheduled for January 31, 2023.
