10 short facts about New Year and Christmas in the USA

Guys, I have collected for you some non-obvious things about celebrating New Year and Christmas in America. To be honest, I didn’t know much of this myself before.

1. New Year's is America's fourth favorite holiday (after Christmas, Thanksgiving and Independence Day)

2. The song Jingle Bells was originally written for Thanksgiving.

3. New Year is the favorite holiday of only 2% of all American adults.

4. More than 1 million people celebrate the New Year in Times Square in New York

5. The most common Christmas and New Year gifts in the USA are money and gift certificates.

6. More than 100 million Americans travel between December 23 and January 1

7. Americans’ favorite destinations for celebrating the New Year are warm cities: Orlando (Florida), Anaheim (California), Honolulu (Hawaii)

8. 52% of those who celebrate Christmas consider it a religious holiday, and 48% consider it a rather non-religious cultural holiday

9. The Grinch is a more popular Christmas decoration than Santa Claus and the snowman.

10. About 22% of Americans remove all Christmas decorations immediately after Christmas before December 31st

Our New Year's celebration in America with Christina is still more similar to what we were accustomed to since childhood. We sometimes celebrate Christmas on December 25th only because of the surrounding atmosphere, but it does not have much meaning for us and is unlikely to ever happen. But on December 31st we definitely cut salads and gather in a close circle as the chimes strike.

I don’t even know if I’ll ever be able to become so Americanized that I’ll decide to throw away the tree before the New Year. Although, this year we will spend December 31 in Florida, almost like real Americans.
