The United States announced the supply of the Patriot system to Ukraine
The United States will allocate a new package of assistance to Ukraine, its size will be $1,85 billion. US President Joe Biden signed a memorandum on the allocation of another package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of up to $1 billion, the White House said in a statement. Another $850 million will be provided by the Pentagon, the US State Department said in a statement.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the aid package would include Patriot missile defense systems. “This assistance includes for the first time the Patriot air defense system, which is capable of shooting down cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles and aircraft at significantly higher altitudes than air defense systems that were previously provided,” US State Department Secretary Antony Blinken said.
Patriot will be the most advanced anti-aircraft missile system received by Ukraine since the beginning of the war. It will allow Ukraine to intercept cruise and ballistic missiles that Russia fires at the country's energy infrastructure. Kyiv has been lobbying Western leaders to provide modern air defense systems for many months.
