Drag shows are banned in Tennessee

Tennessee became the first state to ban drag shows in public places and within 1000 feet of schools. In addition, the state has banned gender reassignment surgeries for minors. Violators face a fine of up to $304 or up to a year in prison. The authors of the law said they did not want to discriminate against anyone. The main reason for such measures is that “drag shows with sexual overtones” are not suitable for children.

Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Montana, Oklahoma and Utah are also considering similar bans.
