Those who have already had COVID-19 or received the vaccine are at greater risk of becoming infected with Omicron XBB.1.5, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says. However, the department added that revaccination is the best way to protect against hospitalization and death from Covid.
According to the CDC, XBB.1.5 accounts for 43% of all coronavirus cases. “The more this virus circulates, the more likely it is to change,” WHO spokeswoman Maria Van Kerkhove said.
