20th Annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden will once again be home to one of nature's most highly anticipated annual attractions. This year, the exhibition “Orchids: Natural Heritage” will begin on February 18 and will last until April 23. The guest designer will be artist Lily Kwong, a former student in the NYBG adult education program. Kwong presents meditative and immersive designs inspired by her ancestors' connections to the natural world. To create the exhibition, Kwong used different types of orchids, both popular and quite rare.

"The idea for the exhibition began with family scrolls that were in my living room throughout my childhood. These scrolls were the first time I was able to use my imagination and truly become immersed in the fantasy of these works. They were then given to me by my parents as a wedding gift "and have always lived in my mind. I really want this installation to inspire people to look at their own heritage and delve into the knowledge of their ancestors for connections to the plant world," says Kwong.

The orchid, a family of nearly 30 species on every continent except Antarctica, is an elegant, lush, large and delicate flower. There are not only natural types of orchids, but also more than 000 artificial hybrids.
