The number of migrant workers in the US hits a record level
The Department of Labor released a report showing that 18,1% of workers in the United States are migrants from other countries. This is a record figure in 27 years of record keeping. The total number of people working in the United States 16 years of age and older is 164 million, of which 29,8 million are foreign citizens. Moreover, half of the workforce is Hispanic, and Asians make up a quarter.
Americans earn an average of $1087 a week, while migrants earn $945. Most foreigners are employed in the service sector, in mining and construction, as well as in cargo transportation.
The immigrant unemployment rate has fallen sharply from 5,6% in 2021 to 3,4% in 2022. Among Americans, unemployment is more significant - 3,7%.
