Ukrainians in the USA may become illegal immigrants
About 10 thousand Ukrainians may find themselves in the status of illegal migrants in the United States in April, since they arrived in the country during the ten-day period between the program for granting temporary protected status (updated) and the “Uniting for Ukraine” program (you can live and work in the United States for two years with a sponsor) - from April 11 to April 21, 2022. Their annual right to reside in the United States is running out, and authorities have not announced an extension.
“Thousands of Ukrainian immigrants living in the United States are facing imminent risk of losing their legal status because they entered the country in a short period of time when the U.S. government had no long-term plan to admit them,” the Wall Street Journal writes.
