Is it true that living in America is very expensive?

Guys, over the last few days I have been actively studying statistics on the cost of living in different countries. I often see and hear the myth “It’s expensive in America, all the money goes to renting a house.” But this is not so and today I will dispel this myth. The other day I found an interesting and convenient site where you can compare in real time current prices for categories such as expenses for one person or a whole family, monthly salary after taxes, rental housing for one person or family, and so on. The results confirmed my hunch: America has more money left over after all basic living expenses than many countries, such as Canada, England, China or Russia. These are real numbers that are confirmed by the collected data.

The average after-tax salary is enough to cover 1,7 months of living expenses in Canada, compared to 1,9 months in America. And in China this figure is 1,1 months, in Russia - generally 0,9 months. Only Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway maintain the same level as America. That is, their average monthly salary is enough for two months of life. Here it is, the American dream in its real embodiment. You can afford to buy two cars and live in a big beautiful house, as well as travel more and more often.

There are 50 states in America, and depending on the state, this ratio may vary. For example, in New York this ratio is slightly worse - about 1,6 months, and in Dallas - exactly 2,2 months. Therefore, the site shows average data for the entire country.
