Most elderly people in the US cannot afford a nursing home.

A study by the National Council on Aging shows that 80% of older Americans do not have the finances to pay for 2 years of living in a nursing home. 60% – or 24 million households – are unable to pay for long-term care at home.

The data was analyzed for 2018, and the report's authors note that after examining data from the period spanning the COVID-19 pandemic, the results worsened. According to Genworth, the average cost of assisted living in the United States is about $4/month. But depending on the area, it can vary from $500 to $3 – $000.
