Mother's Day has been celebrated in the United States on the second Sunday in May since 1914.

This holiday was established thanks to Anna Jarvis, who loved her mother and decided to perpetuate her memory, as well as to celebrate the work and care of all mothers. Her mother, Anne Marie Reeves Jarvis, was an active social activist in the 1905th century. She created a network of women's organizations to help mothers. Her daughter Anne always respected and admired her, and so when Anne said at a regular church meeting, “I hope and pray that someone will someday establish a memorial day for Mother, recognizing this day for the unparalleled service that mothers provide to humanity in all walks of life." – daughter Anna immediately realized that it was she who should establish Mother’s Day in the USA. Ann Marie did not live to see the day when all mothers began to be celebrated simply for being mothers. But it is on her monument that “Mother of Mother’s Day” is engraved. Ann Jarvis died in XNUMX. Immediately after her death, her daughter Anna decided that it would be right not only to establish Mother’s Day, in memory of her mother and in honor of all mothers, but also to make the emblem of this holiday a white carnation - a symbol of purity and maternal love, her favorite flower moms. Anna was persistent in her initiative and spent several years trying to gain legislative support. She wrote letters to various authorities, collected signatures, wrote articles, not paying attention to the ridicule of male politicians.

In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson signed an act of Congress establishing the second Sunday in May as National Mother's Day. It was a real victory, and since then Mother's Day has become one of the most popular and beloved holidays in the United States. On this day, people congratulate their mothers and express their love, gratitude and respect to them.
