Beyoncé Knowles-Carter files a petition with the US Tax Court

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has filed a petition with the U.S. Tax Court asking for a review of nearly $2,7 million in taxes and penalties assessed against her by the IRS. The statement concerns a notice of non-payment of taxes that Beyoncé received on January 18, 2023.

The details of the application indicate the amounts required to be paid. For 2018, Beyoncé must pay:

  • $805 (additional taxes)

  • $161 in fines.

       And for 2019:

  • $1 (additional taxes)

  • $288 in fines.

Interest is also added to these amounts. However, Beyoncé herself disputes the fact of non-payment and puts forward a number of arguments. She claims the IRS erred by denying her millions of dollars in deductions, including a whopping $868 for charitable contributions claimed in 766. Beyoncé also questions the fines. The IRS imposed penalties under section 2018(a) of the Act related to inaccuracies. Under this section, penalties amount to 6662% of the amount of unpaid tax.

However, Beyoncé argues that if the tax is due, there should be no penalties because she "acted reasonably and in good faith."
