In New York, drivers can be fined for speeding without the presence of a police officer.
According to Wblk radio, New York drivers are receiving more speeding tickets. Some city residents are not even aware of the law, which allows certain zones throughout the state to automatically fine violators. The program is designed for five years. Fines for speeding recorded by cameras will be imposed on the official owner of the car, regardless of who was driving.
More signs will soon appear in New York warning drivers that automatic speed detection is in use in the area.
What are the penalties?
-first offense: $50 fine
-second violation: $75 (if within 18 months after the first violation)-
third violation or more: $100 (if within 18 months of first violation).
Owners of vehicles registered in New York State will receive notice of liability within 14 business days. If the fine is not paid, the vehicle may be seized.
