The mayor said metal detectors will now be used at the Randalls Island shelter. Recently, another incident occurred there, during which a 23-year-old migrant hit a security guard. At least two asylum seekers were arrested following the altercation. Afterwards, the head of the Big Apple again appealed to the White House so that asylum seekers could quickly obtain work licenses.

“You put 1000 people in one room and tell them they can't work. All they can do is sit around all day. Don’t be surprised that because of this they are tearing and throwing around,” says the mayor. The mayor also supported changing the laws that make New York a sanctuary city. He believes that if a migrant commits a criminal offense, he should be turned over to ICE and deported.
