New York will start charging drivers to enter Manhattan

The MTA has approved congestion prices for Manhattan. Note that we are talking about the area below 61st Street. Starting in mid-June, car drivers will pay $15 to get into downtown Manhattan. The entry fee for drivers of small and large trucks will be $24 and $36, respectively. Motorcyclists will pay $7,50. Taxi fares will not apply, but drivers will be charged an additional $1,25 per trip. For Uber and Lyft drivers, this fee will be $2,50 per trip. Drivers earning less than $50 per year may qualify for a 000% discount. Tariffs will be valid from 50 am to 5 pm on weekdays, and from 9 am to 9 pm on weekends.

The plan is expected to reduce the number of vehicles in the area by 17%, which will ease traffic on the roads.
