The coffee shop sued the city for half a million because baristas were banned from wearing bikinis.

The owner and employees of the Hillbilly Hotties coffee shop in Everett (Washington) sued the city authorities because a few years ago they banned wearing bikinis to work. The plaintiffs demanded more than $3 million, but as a result of a 6-year legal battle, they won $500 thousand. Coffee shop workers felt that the law requiring fast food employees to wear at least a T-shirt and shorts violated their rights.

The law came about after local residents began complaining about “intimate shows” and prostitution in local coffee shops. There was even sexual exploitation of minors. Therefore, the city introduced clothing requirements for workers in the form of a T-shirt and shorts. Baristas are again allowed to work in bikinis.
