Gynecologist convicted of sex with patients
James Heaps, 66, is a former UCLA gynecologist. The man was accused of several episodes of sexual violence against patients: he had sex with them, including penetrating women who were unconscious. Since Heaps' arrest in 2019, nearly 500 lawsuits have been filed against the university by former patients of the gynecologist. The statements alleged that the doctor treated them cruelly and groped them indecently.
The university had to pay a total of a record amount of compensation - $700 million. Hicks himself did not plead guilty, but the court pronounced its verdict: the man will spend the next 11 years in prison.
