Nearly 120 million Americans breathe polluted air
The American Lung Association released a disappointing report: more than 119 million citizens of the country are forced to live in unfavorable environmental conditions. Air pollution is most problematic in the western United States. The cities of California - Long Beach, Visalia, Bakersfield - are especially affected by inhalation of ozone and pathogenic particles. Also in the top of the most polluted cities is Mesa (Arizona).
The researchers concluded that people of color in America bear the brunt of the health impacts of poor air quality. In counties with the worst environmental quality, 72% of the 18 million people are people of color.
